Colchester Blog

Having been interested in social and business (community) websites for a long time, Marc Allington has now released a new website that allows people living in the Colchester, North Essex area to create their own blog, so long as it is in some way related to Colchester, the people of colchester or the businesses in the Colchester area.

The sort of blogs that are acceptable are based on:

  • Personal Blogs (hobbies and interests) - the person must live in the Colchester area
  • Business Blogs - blogs by Colchester businesses
  • Charity Blogs - blogs by Colchester related charities
  • Club and Society Blogs - clubs and societies that exist in the colchester area such as the "Colchester Photographic Society).

The website also has other features such as groups (forums), private messaging and more.  The plan is to turn "Colchester Blog" into a brand name in the Colchester area, so people know to look there for lots of locally related information.

Blogs are used for many different reasons, so allowing local people to create blogs which are all related to a single place (Colchester) should result in a wealth of useful and important content about what Colchester is like, what's going on there and what the people think of it.

Having only just been launched, it is very early days, but suffice to say, the rate at which social media and networks are growing it is very much hoped that the people living in the Colchester area will embrace it and get the most out of it.

It would be truly wonderful is the site was accepted by the community.  The next phase of the website will be to try and get local county council to start using it to post information on different departments such as Transport, Health Care, Education, Finances, Planning etc.

It is early days, but we have high hopes that it will be successful, with other similar community blogging websites being launched soon, so if you live in Colchester then please visit and even join up.  Membership is free, and members can participate on the site in a variety of different ways as well as creating their own Blog(s) and Group(s).
